A Good Soundtrack

With every book I've written I've eventually needed a soundtrack to focus on. With Limbo it was the Conan the Barbarian soundtrack by Basil Poledouris and Zoë Poledouris. It's tone and rawness helped me capture the brutality of Limbo and Hell. With Purging Paradise and A Town Called Opportunity it was the Bladerunner soundtrack by Vangelis. Getting into a good groove is so important to the way I write. But I can't listen to anything with lyrics. I find it way too distracting.

Recently with Beyond the Fall, it's been the Netflix Resident Evil score soundtrack by Gregory Reveret; particularly, "Don't eat cats." Again, when I'm going for a mood I have to stick it on loop. "Don't eat cats," was probably the craziest one I've ever picked for looping. As a side note, I'm gutted Netflix won't be doing another series of Resident Evil. I would have liked to have seen where it would go.

Anyway, writing with a good beat going is something I find really helps while I'm conjuring ideas. So I highly recommend it if you're not doing it already.
