Finally it is Halloween, one of my favourite times of the year, because you wind up with all the horror movies coming to the front of the queue on all the streaming channels.
While unfortunately I’m finding modern horror movies a bit hit and miss, I am quite pleased the general look of the horror scene at the moment.
For example, I watched the First Omen recently, and I was very impressed. I didn’t expect it to be as good as the originals. The third instalment as you may know is a bit iffy, and the fourth film I watched once a nd never again. I don’t even consider it part of the Omen film’s lore if I’m honest. But maybe I need to view it one more. Maybe. But the First Omen really captured the mood of the originals and I think that it is a worthy movie to put on the list, and I’ll be very interested in what a sequel wants to do.
I also watched a film called Willard from 1971. I watched this because I want to watch the remake which has the actor, Crispin Glover in it, and for some reason I really like the guy, although I don’t really see him very much. However, whatever he’s in it’s usually quite special, and considering the original, it did deserves a remake. It’s a cross between very gentle and quaint, with a horror element to it which kind of made it a bit weird to watch, because I wanted to have a sort of consistent creep running through it like the Omen, Exorcist, Pycho, and there just isn’t one. It’s very playful in places, like so playful you’d think you’re watching a straight-up Disney film. However, you can see the storyline. I haven’t seen the remake yet. But I’ll give you an update when I get round to it.
Finally, there is a film on my radar that I am desperate to watch and have absolutely no idea if it’s any good or not, and that’s a film called, Silver Bullet. Apparently it’s a film based on a novel written by Stephen King. It’s about werewolves, which I love, but for some reason I cannot view this film in th UK. Honestly, I can’t get it on anything, so help me out if anybody knows how I can watch this film. I’d love to find out what it’s like so I can let you know what I think.
As for me, I’m currently still writing. I have a horror book on the Go, but I’m still plodding through chapter 1. I’m trying to set the mood for the entire book, which I have almost done, but it’s quite a long chapter. Once I’ve got that done, I’m gonna try and speed through the entire rest of the story I already have planned out, and then I’ll work back through every chapter, just fleshing them out and making them more intense and special where I can. It’s a lot of back-and-forth, and that’s gonna take time.
It’s been great to catch up, and I hope you all enjoy your Halloween 🎃
